Jesus said this in the middle of teaching about worry, right after talking about people who lie awake over food and clothing. So He is not out of touch with the pressure of not having enough.
His instruction is a reorder, not a scolding. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else. When money is the loudest thing in the room, He says put God first in the room instead, and trust grows from there.
And the promise attached: he will give you everything you need. Not everything you want, and not overnight wealth. Your needs. Jesus draws a line between the needs God covers and the wants worry inflates.
So tonight, before you run the numbers one more time, put God first for five minutes. Seeking Him first does not pay the bill by magic. It puts the One who provides back at the center of the fear.
